Week of September 16th

Good Morning Everyone!

I can't believe that we are already going into our fourth week of school. We are really beginning to settle into our weekly routines and becoming more familiar with our school days.

In reading we will be focusing on Retelling vs. Summarizing. Retelling is when a student reads a passage or a book and tells all the details that they remember. When we retell, we use sequencing words like first, second, next, then, last. Summarizing is a shorter version of a retell that captures just the main idea and points of a passage or story. To summarize, we are using a beginning, middle, end chart. These two strategies are very important in helping us comprehend what we read.

In writing we will finish our study of capital letters and begin working on adjectives. Here are some adjective games:

In math we will conclude our study of skip counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Our skip counting assessment will take place on Wednesday. Students should be able to skip count from any number by these values. Fruit Shoot provide practice with this skill: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/mathgames/earlymath/Fruit_shoot_SkipCount.htm.

We will continue math later in the week by studying how to represent numbers using base ten pieces, written form, and expanded form. More information to come about that on a later post.

I hope you all have a great week! I know we will!
